Housing Support for Remote and Town Communities

Yilli Housing works with the Aboriginal Development Foundation (ADF) – leaseholder - and the Northern Territory Government to help look after homes and services in the following communities:
  • Amangal Community (Adelaide River)
  • Bagot Community
  • Knuckeys Lagoon Community
  • 15 Mile community (Palmerston Indigenous Village)

We’re here to support you by:

  • Managing tenancies and helping with housing issues
  • Doing house inspections and organising repairs
  • Helping connect you to other support services if you need them
  • Talking and listening to residents and leaders through regular community meetings

We also help keep shared areas clean and safe by:

Community Housing Application

Yilli manages housing applications for Bagot, Knuckey's Lagoon and 15 Mile. When
a house becomes available, we work with the leader from that community to help
select the most suitable tenant.

Am I Eligible?

Eligibility is determined in consultation with the community reference group and
considers whether:
  • You are a permanent resident of the community, or accepted as one by
    the community decision-makers
  • You meet general criteria under NTG social housing policy
  • You are able to show proof of income – there’s no set income limit, but
we do need to see that you can afford to pay the rent.
Cultural and community acceptance are important parts of the decision-making.

How to apply for community housing

Fill out the Housing Application Form and submit this with 100 points of identification. Photo identification and current income statement is required for all applications.

Rent

Rent for community housing follows Northern Territory Government guidelines:
  • Rent is based on how many bedrooms are in the house
  • You won’t be charged for more than 4 bedrooms, even if the house has more
  • There’s a safety net to help avoid rental stress – this checks that the rent is
fair and affordable based on your household income
